  • Last Entry

Mollie lost her battle with IVDD. The pinched nerves continued up her spine to almost her neck. She began losing control of her front limbs. Justin and I had to make a very tough decision. While we have been pulling for her and have been being strong for her, there is only so much pain you can watch your friend go through. So Mollie made her way to Heaven a little after midnight.

While I feel horrible for losing one of my best friends, I am relieved that she is no longer suffering.

Rest in peace Mollie. You have touched more lives than you can think.

    We love you little girl.

  • Frankie, My New Brother

My new brother, Frankie, arrived yesterday. Mommy and Daddy woke up very early and got me all harnesses up and took me with them to get Mr. Frankie at some rest stop. He was in  crate, so I couldn't get to know him like I wanted to!! I was barking and whining the entire car ride home.

When we got home, we got to sniff each other. I was a little bit wary of him so I kept my distance. He isn't as hyper as I am, and that bugged me! How can you not want to jump about and carry on and be awesome??

Mommy and Daddy were nice, though. They kept telling me how much they loved me and that I was still their special little girl.

I think I like him. He's quiet and nice. He likes to give Mommy and Daddy kisses, and that kinda makes me jealous because I like to give them kisses.

But I think this will work out. Welcome to the family, big brother!

    Oh yeah, here are pictures:

    Hello up there!

  • Happy Thanksgiving! New Brother! Yay!

So Mommy and Daddy are getting me a brother!!! Apparently, they have been working with DRNA: Dachshund Rescue of North America since the summer, trying to find the perfect little companion for me.

Behold Mister Frankie! He is a red longhair boy and I am super excited!! He has had a tough life. His previous owners left him outside ALL the time, so he has a fear of the outside. Well, I'll fix him! I'll show him how nice it is to stay inside and be lazy on a couch all day! /giggle

He will be transported from South Carolina on December 13, 2008. So we're hoping for a Christmas Arrival!

Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to Mister Frankie! I am thankful that you will be with a wonderful family!

Edit: I found Frankie on Dogster! Click here to see this handsome boy!

  • Pet Food Rating

So not too long ago, Mommy and Daddy switched my food. I was eating Beneful until Mommy found information about how bad the ingredients in are for me!!! She did some research, and found a really great food for me: Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul - and I absolutely love it! It's so yummy! And it doesn't give me gas!

She did more research and found out a lot of horrible things about commercial dog/cat foods. Those TV commercials that we see - with the happy puppies and kitties frolicking around happily, enjoying their food - are a complete fasad. The top commercial brands (Purina, Eukanuba, Iams, Science Diet, Alpo) all contain the worst ingredients and are really very bad "foods."

Anyway, I wanted to list a few websites that the Mommies and Daddies should check out. You want to be eating food that is GOOD for you. Not icky stuffs!

Pet Food Rating - Website that allows you to grade your current food. You add/subtract points based on criteria. A must-see. You will be shocked! My new dog food, Chicken Soup, has a grade of 117 (A+). My old dog food, Beneful, has a horrible grade of 32 (F).
Eridox's Nutrition Listing - A Dachshund Breeder listed a bunch of foods that she did research on and gives descriptions for ingredients.
Dog Food Anaylsis - Assesses all dog foods available. This is another great website. You can search for any food brand and get feedback and reviews on that brand.
Consumer Search - Cat Food Reviews - Reviews for various cat foods.

Yes, the higher quality foods are more expensive. But, the better quality the food is, the LESS the pet will consume, because they will be getting more nutrition. The lesser the quality the food is (the cheaper stuff), the more the pet will consume, thus recieving more fillers, less nutrition, and more frequent potty breaks. The pet winds up eating almost twice or three times as much as they should  just to get the nutrition they need.

The bottom line? Commercial pet foods are HORRIBLE. They contain filler ingredients, sub par "protein", and who knows what else?! The best foods to have are HUMAN GRADE foods. Why would you feed your beloved pet "food" that a human wouldn't touch?

  • 8 Random Things Me-Me

Diamondcat tagged me for 8 Random Things!

    The rules are:
    • Each furson starts with eight random fact/habits about themselves.
    • Fursons who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
    • At the end of your blogpost, you need to choose eight fursons to get tagged and list their name.
    • Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged and to read your blog.
And without further ado, my list!
    1. I hate Milk Bones. I think they are the ickiest!
    2. I would spend the whole say sleeping if you let me. (Wait... I already do that!)
    3. I own 2 identical green balls and I can tell them apart.
    4. I have a boyfriend. His name is Harley. He is a golden retriever and he's a stud. ;)

    6. I hate being wet. Or cold. Or Hot. Or anything that is not remotely comfortable.

  • No Dentist for Me?

A while back, I overheard Mommy and Daddy talking about my bad breath and the plaque and tarter buildup on my teeth. Apparently, a teeth cleaning is something my Vet would do. Now, I am all for going to visit my Vet - she's the awesomest Vet in the world, but Mommy said that I would have to be put to sleep for a teeth cleaning!!! WHAT?!?! I thought they just used a tooth brush and everything would be copacetic! Well, she was putting it off because it's pretty expensive to have a teeth cleaning, and she would have to make multiple appointments   because she loves me and doesn't want to put me through such a traumatic experience.

Well, last week Mommy came home with a shin bone. And it's filled with peanut butter stuff. It's the best bone ever! It's heavy and smooth and I LOVE the peanut butter! Last night, I was sitting on the couch with Mommy and Daddy, happily chomping on my bone when Mommy exclaimed, "Oh Wow! Justin! Look at her teeth!" And then they both start pawing at my mouth, which I wasn't too thrilled about, and Mommy said "Her teeth are as white as snow! She doesn't have any plaque or tarter!!!" And Daddy said "It must be that new bone."

And apparently, that made them very happy because then they went nuts with me, petting me and rubbing my tummy so I gave lots and lots of kisses.

"Ugh, we still have to do something about that breath, though."

  • Not much to blog about. Mommy cleaned the house on Saturday, and you know what that means - the big bad vacuuuuum cleaner! I swear, one of these days, that thing is going to get me and eat me!! It scares me so so much. Mommy knows that, so she usually puts me in the bathroom - but I hate being locked up!! I have to be the center of attention and know what's going on at all times! This is MY house, you know???? So yeah, vacuum = not a happy Mollie. But Mommy was nice afterwards - she gave me some carrots and then played with my bouncy ball with me. Then we snuggled on the couch together.

Sunday, we all went to Daddy's Mommy and Daddy (Mommy's in-laws - whatever those are)' house. I LOVE going there!!! I get to play with Moose and Harley! They are big ole Golden Retreivers! And I totally rule the roost when I go there. But I do love them. They are my buddies. I run around under them and bark and play and go after their tails.

While we were there, Mommy thought it would be a good idea to have our pictures taken, so Mommy, Daddy, and I posed for a picture. Something about Christmas Cards. I don't know what those are but they sound yummy.

I was allowed to have some dinner samples (chicken and broccoli - YUMMY!), which is always awesome. Afterward, I was so so sleepy. I fell asleep on Mommy in the car on the way home, and then I just passed out on the couch.

    It's exhausting being me! Woof!
